I probably spent the better half of the day Googling away, until I read one of Jack\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curious, I played around with the demos, subscribed to the service, and quickly set up my first experimental giveaway. And the results ?.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down to check \u2018em out, but first&#8230;<strong>FREE Guide: <\/strong><a href=\"#vyperpopup\"> 7 Growth Hacks That Will Quickly Improve &amp; Grow Your Website&nbsp;[Download]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Before we get started, here&#8217;s some context.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We (Birch + Fog) were experimenting with a few different growth tactics before we discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VYPER<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cross-promotional giveaways.<\/strong><br>With other female-first brands on IG worked very well, but only so many can be run and they need to be spaced out. It\u2019s easy to burn this tactic out quickly, and persisting can lead to brand erosion. You don\u2019t want to be seen as a \u201cbargain brand,\u201d and you definitely don\u2019t want to be perceived as desperate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited success with influencer relationship platforms.<\/strong><br>We found that our own in-house influencer <a href=\"https:\/\/recruiterflow.com\/blog\/recruitment-strategies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recruitment process<\/a> was better than the influencer relationship management platforms out there. They\u2019re definitely valuable but better leveraged for their databases, not recruitment. They generated awareness, but revenue and traffic attribution are difficult.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>We experimented with an internal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postaffiliatepro.com\/affiliate-software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affiliate program<\/a>.<\/strong><br>But found that the return wasn\u2019t worth the investment (at the time). There was too much operational overhead, and that time was better spent building relationships with our influencers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So what gives? (heh)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides a pop-up on our home page, we never needed to deploy any lead capture software. Our metrics all looked healthy: from traffic and sign-ups to order conversion and AOV, everything was peachy. Our sign-up process and pop-up were more than enough to sustain our growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a leading indicator of sign-ups, one of my critical KPI was site traffic. But as we grew, so did our goals, and exponential growth proved difficult to sustain with our activities at the time: 30% month over a month meant if we had 50,000 visitors last month, this month\u2019s goal is 65,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We started looking for ways to generate lots of TOFU (top of the funnel) awareness and traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since there were onerous advertising regulations in the cannabis industry, we looked to giveaways as the perfect alternative for driving that traffic, which led to commensurate sign-ups and sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, back to that first giveaway, we ran with <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VYPER<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The results were mindblowing!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"83\" src=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats.png\" alt=\"VYPER giveaway stats\" class=\"wp-image-2153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats.png 512w, https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats-300x49.png 300w, https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats-500x81.png 500w, https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats-400x65.png 400w, https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats-200x32.png 200w, https:\/\/vyper.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats-50x8.png 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It only took 7 days. Our very first giveaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That green bar? Those were our \u201cviral\u201d emails, leads that were captured from referred participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We experienced a 10% lift in traffic within a week, and 64% of our participants came from an audience that was, until then, untapped. Neat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our giveaway objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>A 45% MoM lift in traffic;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 30% MoM lift in revenue;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educating customers about our brand story, value proposition, and offerings; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased social (IG and FB) engagement, follows, and reviews (you can\u2019t be community-powered without making the effort to build it!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase brand reach and awareness\u00a0in the cannabis industry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key results and takeaways<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s talk numbers, along with some lessons we learned on the way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key results:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>35% overall increase in traffic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An 83% increase in Pageviews on our blog, and a 54% increase in unique sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1,000+ new Instagram followers per week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A whopping 1,842% increase in Facebook likes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2,017% Facebook page\u2019s fan engagement rate,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3,772% increase in website clicks from social? Guess when we started using VYPER?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People are more likely to participate further down the line if your grand prize is based on a random draw, as opposed to the top scorer. Everybody and their mama want to join, but you wanna make sure you\u2019re making the most out of your traffic. If you\u2019re going for a lead magnet that is unrelated to your offering, make sure it is at a niche product or service that would attract the people within your target audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offering an incentive for first-time customers reduces the barrier to entry for folks that may be interested, but are anxious about making that first purchase. Let them test your product at an introductory rate, and if the experience delights them, they\u2019ll come back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flooding the bonus actions from the get-go is overwhelming for participants. It creates a lot of noise and distracts them from taking the actions you might <strong>really<\/strong> want them to take. It might seem like more bonus actions = more opportunities to engage, but these can be deployed over time and announced via email to keep them coming back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bonus actions like \u201clike, comment, and share this Facebook post\u201d will increase a post\u2019s relevance score, which helped us reach more people at a lower cost.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how were our prizes related to our offering? A little about our brand for context, and then more about our plans for the next giveaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Birch + Fog<\/strong> is the wellness, beauty, and lifestyle collective for health-conscious and plant-powered women. It has grown formidably since, forming a tribe of women, mothers, and socialites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pharmaceuticals aren\u2019t for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The modern woman deserves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birchandfog.com\/your-guide-to-cbd\/\">better, modern alternatives to self-care<\/a>, so we set out on a mission to change the landscape through premium plant-powered wellness products that make up the backbone of your routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s casual, uncomplicated wellness that works with you, instead of on you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a direct-to-consumer brand, we have complete visibility on our customers through our tech architecture and see them all as influencers. We share their content on our website, our social media profiles, and anywhere else we can show off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We get our most hardcore fans involved in our product launches, who are more willing to put up with some issues because they know we will listen and act on their feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This also makes them feel special and creates an army of evangelists for the brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about it this way: when your friend says \u201cyou need to try this,\u201d you probably will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the results speak for themselves. For the first year, we drove sustained 30% MoM revenue growth, and more than doubled our first year\u2019s revenue in the next 8 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After reaching 16k IG followers in September of 2018, our account was disabled \u2639\ufe0f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had to start fresh, and 4 months later, we went from 0 to 13.1k followers. Now that we have a better handle on those, we\u2019ll explore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Higher points per referral.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Starting with 5 bonus actions, MAXIMUM. And making sure these are all directly aligned to business objectives. Add more and change out bonus actions as the contest runs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leveraging influencers more. I probably spent the better half of the day Googling away, until I read one of Jack\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blogs<\/a>.\r\n\r\nCurious, I played around with the demos, subscribed to the service, and quickly set up my first experimental giveaway. And the results ?.\r\n\r\nScroll down to check \u2018em out, but first...\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<div style=\"padding: 25px; background-color: #313272;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>FREE Guide: <\/strong><a class=\"vyper-triggers-329\" style=\"color: #ffffff; border-bottom: 0px !important;\" href=\"#vyperpopup\"> 7 Growth Hacks That Will Quickly Improve &amp; Grow Your Website\u00a0[Download]<\/a> <script src=\"\/\/vyper.io\/cu-js\/cu-fullscreen-329.js\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/script><\/span><\/div>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h2><strong>Before we get started, here's some context.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\nWe (Birch + Fog) were experimenting with a few different growth tactics before we discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VYPER<\/a>:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><strong>Cross-promotional giveaways.<\/strong>\r\nWith other female-first brands on IG worked very well, but only so many can be run and they need to be spaced out. It\u2019s easy to burn this tactic out quickly, and persisting can lead to brand erosion. You don\u2019t want to be seen as a \u201cbargain brand,\u201d and you definitely don\u2019t want to be perceived as desperate.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Limited success with influencer relationship platforms.<\/strong>\r\nWe found that our own in-house influencer recruitment process was better than the influencer relationship management platforms out there. They\u2019re definitely valuable, but better leveraged for their databases, not recruitment. They generated awareness, but revenue and traffic attribution are difficult.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>We experimented with an internal affiliate program.<\/strong>\r\nBut found that the return wasn\u2019t worth the investment (at the time). There was too much operational overhead, and that time was better spent building relationships with our influencers.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<strong>So what gives? (heh)<\/strong>\r\n\r\nBesides a pop-up on our home page, we never needed to deploy any lead capture software. Our metrics all looked healthy: from traffic and sign-ups to order conversion and AOV, everything was peachy. Our sign-up process and pop-up were more than enough to sustain our growth.\r\n\r\nAs a leading indicator of sign-ups, one of my critical KPI was site traffic. But as we grew, so did our goals, and exponential growth proved difficult to sustain with our activities at the time: 30% month over month meant if we had 50,000 visitors last month, this month\u2019s goal is 65,000.\r\n\r\nWe started looking for ways to generate lots of TOFU (top of the funnel) awareness and traffic.\r\n\r\nSince there were onerous advertising regulations in the cannabis industry, we looked to giveaways as the perfect alternative for driving that traffic, which led to commensurate sign-ups and sales.\r\n\r\nNow, back to that first giveaway, we ran with <a href=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VYPER<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<strong>The results were mindblowing!<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2153\" src=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-giveaway-stats.png\" alt=\"VYPER giveaway stats\" width=\"512\" height=\"83\" \/>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It only took 7 days. Our very first giveaway.<\/p>\r\nThat green bar? Those were our \u201cviral\u201d emails, leads that were captured from referred participants.\r\n\r\nWe experienced a 10% lift in traffic within a week, and 64% of our participants came from an audience that was, until then, untapped. Neat!\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h2><strong>Our giveaway objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>A 45% MoM lift in traffic;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A 30% MoM lift in revenue;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Educating customers about our brand story, value proposition, and offerings; and<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Increased social (IG and FB) engagement, follows, and reviews (you can\u2019t be community-powered without making the effort to build it!)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Increase brand reach and awareness\u00a0in the cannabis industry.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h2><strong>Key results and takeaways<\/strong><\/h2>\r\nLet\u2019s talk numbers, along with some lessons we learned on the way:\r\n\r\n<strong>Key results:<\/strong>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>35% overall increase in traffic.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>An 83% increase in Pageviews on our blog, and 54% increase in unique sessions.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>1,000+ new Instagram followers per week.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A whopping 1,842% increase in Facebook likes,<\/li>\r\n \t<li>2,017% Facebook page\u2019s fan engagement rate,<\/li>\r\n \t<li>3,772% increase in website clicks from social ? Guess when we started using VYPER?<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2149\" src=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/VYPER-Facebook-growth-stats.png\" alt=\"VYPER Facebook growth stats\" width=\"512\" height=\"192\" \/><\/li>\r\n \t<li>People are more likely to participate further down the line if your grand prize is based on a random draw, as opposed to the top scorer. We think this is because people are discouraged when they join halfway through the game and realize that they have a lot of catch-ups to do, which impacts sign-up conversions.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Entrants don\u2019t mind receiving multiple emails in one week if it\u2019s for the contest - they like receiving updates on bonus actions, rewards, and events like double-jeopardy.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<strong>A few examples of our recent email campaigns:<\/strong>\r\n\r\nEmail 01 = Entrants: 45% open rate, 10% CTR\r\nEmail 02 = Entrants: 45% open rate, 7% CTR\r\nEmail 03 = Newsletter: 20% open rate, 5% CTR\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2178\" src=\"https:\/\/vyper.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Image-2019-02-20-at-8.28.45-AM.png\" alt=\"contest email examples\" width=\"462\" height=\"835\" \/>\r\n<h2><strong>Takeaways<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Prizes that are not directly related to your offering or don\u2019t address your target audience or niche\u2019s interests, like vacation vouchers, may generate a lot of traffic and sign-ups, but results in fewer orders and customer conversions. Everybody and their mama wants to join, but you wanna make sure you\u2019re making the most out of your traffic. If you\u2019re going for a lead magnet that is unrelated to your offering, make sure it is at a niche product or service that would attract the people within your target audience.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Offering an incentive for first-time customers reduces the barrier to entry for folks that may be interested, but are anxious about making that first purchase. Let them test your product at an introductory rate, and if the experience delights them, they\u2019ll come back.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Flooding the bonus actions from the get-go is overwhelming for participants. It creates a lot of noise and distracts them from taking the actions you might *really* want them to take. It might seem like more bonus actions = more opportunities to engage, but these can be deployed over time and announced via email to keep them coming back.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Bonus actions like \u201clike, comment, and share this facebook post\u201d will increase a post\u2019s relevance score, which helped us reach more people at a lower cost.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nSo, how were our prizes related to our offering? A little about our brand for context, and then more about our plans for the next giveaway.\r\n\r\n<strong>Birch + Fog<\/strong> is the wellness, beauty, and lifestyle collective for health-conscious and plant-powered women. It has grown formidably since, forming a tribe of women, mothers, and socialites.\r\n\r\nPharmaceuticals aren\u2019t for everyone.\r\n\r\nThe modern woman deserves <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birchandfog.com\/your-guide-to-cbd\/\">better, modern alternatives to self-care<\/a><\/u>, so we set out on a mission to change the landscape through premium plant-powered wellness products that make up the backbone of your routine.\r\n\r\nIt\u2019s casual, uncomplicated wellness that works with you, instead of on you.\r\n\r\nAs a direct-to-consumer brand, we have complete visibility on our customers through our tech architecture and see them all as influencers. For the first year, we drove sustained 30% MoM revenue growth, and more than doubled our first year\u2019s revenue in the next 8 months.\r\n\r\nAfter reaching 16k IG followers in September of 2018, our account was disabled \u2639\ufe0f.\r\n\r\nWe had to start fresh, and 4 months later, we went from 0 to 13.1k followers.
